The Mika Haka Foundation offers free Physical Activity Dance Programs to Auckland secondary schools
In response to growing global concerns around child obesity MHF has designed a program that not only assists kids get active at school but we deliver out of the classroom experiences for young people.
Kā Life is a health and wellbeing programme that targets students of all sizes and abilities in schools high in Māori, Asian and Pacific Island students.
Kā Life offers zero fee workshops and performances that encourage fun without the negative influences of alcohol, smoking, drugs, and violence.
Kā Life encourages active and healthy lifestyles. The students benefit as they learn new skills, improve their fitness, and increase their confidence. The programme will also help students at risk learn more effectively and encourage them to remain in school.
Under the guidance of the MHF Crew, students will be encouraged to tailor their own programme, selecting from: Hip Hop/Breaking, New Māori Dance and Modern Dance. Our Syllabus is founded on the NZQA New Māori Dance Standards, established by Mika and members of the Foundation.
During Term 1, we will hold a discussion group with teachers and students, setting goals and projects.
During Term 2, we will hold weekly visits in the classroom teaching the new Kā Life Dance Syllabus.
KĀ LIFE Syllabus includes methodologies around healthy eating, fun exercise with a digital strategy to engage young people to attend active lifestyle programs.
KĀ LIFE syllabus also utilizes mathematics, geometry, original NZ music composition, traditional Māori games and physical education and arts curricula.
Our team will then create the programme for your school that will generate better learning outcomes for the students.
Kā Life educators are qualified and hold current First Aid certificates. Crew members have headlined at the acclaimed Edinburgh Festival, and toured to destinations as diverse as Japan, Canada and India.
