Kā 400 FREE Holiday Programme offers classes in Manurewa to school students 11-17 years of age this April.

What dance experience do I need?
You do not need any dance experience
Our classes are designed for those with two left feet
The teacher is trained to assess how the material is being absorbed and respond accordingly
What do I need to bring?
KAI: Yes to water and fruit, sorry but absolutely no junk food, fizzy drinks
CLOTHING: Loose clothes, barefeet or sneakers and a smile!
PHONES: Its great to have fun, so please remember when in the Dance studio we are here to dance! Turn off the phones & texts.
SUNSCREEN: Prevent from being burnt please come with some 30+ Sun Screen for outdoor games
What will I learn?
SPORTS
Ki-o-rahi, a traditional Maori ‘touch rugby’ type sport. In Manurewa join us in learning this game and other fun sport as we get to know each other with Jay Tewake and Jade and his great team at He Oranga Poutama Ki Tamaki Makaurau.
DANCE
Jay Tewake, leader of the KA400 dance crew who were all over Auckland during the RWC2011 Class will include stretching sessions, boot camp, the latest street dance hip hop routines, dance for music video and games. All teachers are trained in minor 1st AID. Jay will be at all sports and dance events
Can I watch but not participate?
GUESTS: Please let us know before you bring guests
Parents, teachers and caregivers are welcome to observe. The teachers would appreciate your quiet during the classes
Children under 11years of age may NOT take part without the express approval of Jay Tewake. Unfortunately we do not have the resources to be caregivers for young children
NO Phone calls/texts etc of any type during class
What do I wear to class?
BEFORE YOU HIT THE FLOOR: Please remove all jewellery, watches, earrings as these can cut and catch someone’s face, let alone ripped from your ear lobes.
Our dress code is tracksuits, league shorts, loose t/shirts. Avoid jeans, tight clothing or hanging earrings, rings or bangles for safety reasons
SHOES: Yes to bare feet and dance shoes, but not your street shoes or hi heels thanks

Please do not interrupt teacher
Please do not talk while teacher is talking
PHOTOS: Please ask if you wish to take photos or videos, please do not be offended if we say no sometimes
Personal Grooming Tips
Dancing is an activity where people come in close contact. Before a dance:
Shower and use a deodorant (Roll on preferred, if spray please use outside of teaching space)
Brush teeth and use mouthwash or breath mint
Abstain from foods that produce strong odors, like those heavy in garlic
The odor of cigarettes on one’s breath or clothing can be very unattractive
Health & Safety Tips for Dancers
The floor is for dancing, walk around the edge of the dance floor rather than trying to thread your way through the dancers
If you are sharing, learning or practicing new moves, do it off to the side of the dance floor
If the dance floor is crowded, do not take up excessive space or travel from area to rea, look around and behind you so you don’t crash into others
Manage your wellbeing; drink plenty of liquids at long sessions, wear suitable shoes and check out our first aid kit for minor injuries
NO gymnastic or non Mika Haka dance syllabus move to be practiced at any time. In doing so you indemnify Mika and associates from any claims against them
All care taken but anything broken, stolen or goes missing is not our responsibility, sorry.
All care OSH and health regulations are adhered to at all times. Please notify a Crew member of anything dangerous or any injures and log in the Health and safety book
NO Smoking on or outside premises and property
RESPECT: Yes to hongi, cuddles, kisses and friendship, please care for each other. We do not use derogatory racist, sizest, sexest remarks at any time
Sports are Outdoor
Like the newspaper advert there are also outdoor sports days. Please check the weather forecast before you leave home, and come prepared. This is New Zealand! We will play rain or shine, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

There is car parking facilities at the Marae.
Disabled Parking
Available on site for vehicles displaying disabled sign.
